Huntington’ Chorea
What is Huntington’s Chorea?
Huntington’s Chorea is a genetic disorder characterised by the appearance of dementia and involuntary jerky movements of the whole body, beginning in mid-adult life.
There is atrophy of the basal ganglia in the brain. The degree of atrophy is directly related to the severity and duration of the disease.
Clinical Features
1. Age group of onset 35-40 years.
2. Bizarre grimacing.
3. Irregular, arrhythmic unpatterned movement of the limbs and neck, progressive rigidity.
4. Dancing gait.
5. Faulty articulation of speech.
6. Respiratory irregularities.
7. Dementia, depression, erratic behavior, emotional outbursts.
