Skin whitening is a very personal, very important issue for many women and men. It has a huge impact on the confidence, self-esteem and self-worth of people around the world every day. However, questions remain about products such as glutathione and l-glutathione for whitening - how do they work, what they should be used for and which specific products are recommended?

Let’s shed some light on this topic and provide some basic, factual information about glutathione and l-glutathione for a healthy life and for skin whitening.

Glutathione is a peptide molecule produced by the liver. Found naturally in some fruits, vegetables and meats, it is also found in every cell of our bodies. It protects the cells and the skin from environmental stressors and attacks by mutated cells and harmful “free radicals.” Glutathione performs two essential tasks to help the skin: 1. Prevents oxidative damage to the skin and it, 2. Inhibits synthesis of melanin.

Preventing oxidative damage to the skin is extremely important to keeping the skin healthy and free of damage. Our skin is under constant oxidative stress from the environment. The stress results in damage and distortions to the cellular makeup of the skin. Glutathione protects the skin, preventing damage while keeping your skin vibrant, healthy and beautiful. When glutathione is present at reduced or minimal levels in our cells, then our entire immune system - from our skin to our internal organs - can be compromised, causing damage and disease.

Inhibiting the synthesis of melanin is the most important part of using glutathione for skin whitening. The blocking of melanin lightens, brightens and whitens the skin. The amount of melanin in your skin determines how dark or light your skin appears. The more melanin that is, the darker the skin’s complexion. When glutathione and l-glutathione block production of melanin, then melanin’s darkening effect doesn’t impact the skin as much, therefore leaving it brighter and whiter.

Proper glutathione levels throughout the course of our life have been repeatedly shown to be associated with a healthy heart, good eyesight and a long life. As we’ve discussed, glutathione is also crucial for a lifetime of healthy, vibrant skin. That’s a win-win - it’s not everyday the same product is great for your cosmetic needs AND for great for your health!
